Week 23

This week I started working on my sim racing wheel project. I spent a while looking for measurements of the specific wheel and pedals that I have online. I eventually found a blueprint that listed the measurements perfectly. I then started to work on the stand. I started by making a platform for the pedals to rest on. I made it 13 in x 13 because the pedals measured to roughly 10.5 in x 10.5 so I wanted to make sure that they would fit. I also wanted to be able to fit the PVC that will connect it to the rest of the stand on. I then Connected PVC to the pedal base and curved it to surround the base. At first I only used one pipe going down the middle of the wheel stand as you can see to the right below.

After further thinking, I realized that this would likely be too little to support the weight of the wheel and the force being exerted on it when using it. This lead me to start designing models with more support. I started with the design that is pictured to the left and in the middle below. It included only one stand but with a fork-like design to held the platform. I liked the idea but once I modeled it I realized that it still would not be enough support. Finally I designed the Model to the right which I like the design of most and it seems as if it will offer the best support.
